Top 10 Rivalry's in College Football

  1. Army-Navy
These two teams first met on the football field in 1890, and since 1899 have been doing it every year. The Navy entered last season with a winning record of 59-49 and they have also won the past 12 times. Army is 50-59. The game has switched locations throughout the years but the majority of them are play in Philadelphia.
  1. Michigan-Ohio State
These two teams have been playing every year since 1918. Michigan hosts these contests in the odd years and Ohio State in the even. These two teams have been in the Big-Ten conference championship 22 times. In 1902 Michigan beat Ohio State 86-0  which was the biggest difference between the two since they started. It is the longest standing record between the two to this date.
  1. Alabama-Auburn
Alabama against auburn or better known as “The Iron Bowl” is a game between the two biggest schools in Alabama. This game was traditionally played on Thanksgiving weekend, but in 1993 both teams decided to move it to the weekend before thanksgiving to give themselves a bye before the potential SEC championship game.
  1. Oklahoma-Texas
This game is known as the “Red River Showdown”. Texas leads this series 60-44. This rivalry started in 1900. In 1963 these teams were the top two teams in the nation. #1 Oklahoma against #2 Texas. Texas went on the take the game and the number 1 ranking.
  1. Florida State- Miami
This is a great in state rivalry. These games have often went into the kicker's leg while many field goals have missed wide right or wide left or even blocked. Both of these teams are always competitive and one of them usually is always ranked while coming into the game. Miami won the first series in 1951 35-13. Miami still leads the series 31-28 despite losing the last 5.
  1. Georgia-Flordia
This is known as the tailgating game. Every year since 1933 the game has been played in Jacksonville, Florida and fans from Florida and Georgia all come down and cheer their team onto victory. These schools do not agree on when the rivalry began. Georgia believes it started in 1904 when they won 57-0 but Florida believes it didn't start until 1915 because they were the University of Florida Agriculture then. Either way Georgia still leads the series by either 8 or 9.
  1. Notre Dame-USC
The day after Thanksgiving these teams always face off. These two teams have always been in the top of the rankings. Between them they have 11 National Championships and 7 Heisman trophy winners. The winning team gets one of the coolest trophies out there, The Jeweled Shillelagh. Notre Dame one the first game 13-12 in 1926 and lead the overall series 45-36-5.
  1. California-Stanford
This rivalry is known as “The Big Game”. They first met 123 years ago and that ended with Stanford winning 14-10.  In 1982 there was “The Play” where Stanford was winning 20-19 but then California returned the kickoff featuring many laterals and pulled off the impossible. They have met 117 times and Stanford leads the series 60-46-11.
  1. BYU-Utah
This rivalry is very underrated. This is an instate school rivalry known as “The Holy War”. This game is the good kids vs the bad kids or church vs state. They first met in 1896 and that ended with Utah winning 12-4. Since then Utah has stayed winning the majority of the games as the overall series is 57-34-4.
  1. Oregon-Oregon State

This rivalry is known as “The Civil War”. This is the fifth longest rivalry game there is and these schools don't like each other. 121 years ago was the first meeting and it ended with Oregon State winning 16-0. These schools are very close as well and there have been many stories about kidnapping other students and holding them hostage for the game or students trying to pull pranks on the other school. Overall this is a great rivalry. Oregon leads the series 62-46-10.
